The Helping Hands OV Green Teen Project empowers teens (ages 13–17) to serve their community while building valuable life skills. Inspired by the national “50 Yard Challenge,” this program gives youth the chance to mow and rake lawns for free for seniors, veterans, disabled individuals, and low-income families in the Orangevale area.
Teens commit to completing 40 lawns over the year, earning prizes for every 10 lawns and celebrating their success at an End-of-Project Party in June. Along the way, they’ll receive a Green Teen T-shirt, safety glasses, and flyers to share with neighbors where they feel safe helping.
Each project is supervised by a parent, guardian, or trusted adult. Teens must submit before-and-after photos of their work to track progress, and their own lawn does not count toward their milestones.
This program isn’t just about yardwork—it’s about leadership, responsibility, and giving back. Participants also gain community service hours, which look great on college applications, scholarships, and future job opportunities.
Together, we’re raising up the next generation of leaders—one lawn at a time.
